What can be said about Paura Nella Citta Dei Morti Viventi (City of the Living Dead) that has not been said already? Here we have another gothic horror classic by Lucio Fulci. It is a true masterpiece in its genre. Building on the huge success of Fulci's Zombi 2, the director returns to the zombie theme again, but this time the film is not set on an exotic, remote island, but in an urban environment.
Like in Zombi 2, the cinematography is absolutely fantastic, and Fabio Frizzi's score leaves nothing to be desired. Fulci himself has stated that the fear element is central in this film, not the zombies. This fact is also evident from the original italian movie poster for Paura Nella Citta Dei Morti Viventi where the word "paura" ("fear" in English) is strongly emphasized.
This movie is also somewhat slow moving, but Fulci does not just waste our time. Instead, he carefully builds the suspenseful atmosphere. Paura Nella Citta Dei Morti Viventi is a great, violent gothic horror classic that you absolutely must see. Just make sure to get the uncensored version.
