After watching Antonio Margheriti's disappointingly crappy war flick L'Ultimo Cacciatore, I decided to try out one of his tradional gothic horror films instead: La Vergine di Norimberga (The Virgin of Nuremberg). I am happy to say that this time I was not let down.
La Vergine di Norimberga is a good quality film, but you should not expect very much action. This is a very old movie, and the atmosphere and the cinematography are the key factors here. Christopher Lee (mistakenly dubbed as "Cristopher" in both the opening credits and in the trailer) is great like always. In fact, seeing La Vergine di Norimberga reminded me of the good times I have had with the british Hammer horror films starring Christopher Lee. I still maintain Christopher is by far the best Dracula.
To sum it up, this is a good, suspenseful horror movie that has a nice mystery element in it. I think I am going to watch Margheriti's Danza Macabra (Castle of Blood) next.
